Letter to CTC/ETS Participants – Increasing Measles Cases and Importance of Bringing Vaccination Record

From RCSU (Pac):

"Measles is a highly contagious virus.  There are currently outbreaks of this disease in several parts of Canada–significantly more than in recent years. It usually causes fever, cough, rash, and red eyes—but in some cases, it can lead to serious complications like pneumonia, brain infection and swelling, and even death.

If you are experiencing these symptoms or if you have been exposed to measles you should seek medical attention
before traveling to a Cadet Training Centre or Junior Canadian Ranger (JCR) Enhanced Training Session (ETS) this summer.

To help keep everyone safe this summer, all Course Cadets, Junior Canadian Rangers (JCR), Staff Cadets, and adult staff attending CTCs or JCR ETS are strongly encouraged to be up to date with their measles vaccinations and to bring a copy of proof with them.

If a measles exposure were to occur at a CTC or ETS, having proof of vaccination will be necessary to allow you to continue to participate in the summer program, and will reduce the risk of you needing to be isolated on-site or potentially be returned home to isolate—if it is deemed safe by public health.

Before travelling to CTC or a JCR ETS this summer please ensure you have downloaded and read the measles Letter to CTC/ETS Participants. This letter explains why vaccination matters, what to expect if there is an outbreak, and why bringing a copy of your vaccine record (printed or on your phone) is especially important this year."

Attached is the Letter to CTC/ETS Participants.

Cadets that are going to Summer Training…

Good day everyone. Now that the Squadron has officially stood down for the summer, we still have those cadets that are attending Summer Training at various Cadet Training Centres (CTC) across Canada. This link will help you prepare to attend Summer Training: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/cadets-junior-canadian-rangers/cadets/summer-training/joining-instructions.html

Make sure to go through the Joining Instructions for the CTC that you will be attending.

We are still waiting on travel itineraries. As soon as they come available, they will be sent to your Cadet email / personal email.

One thing that you should have in your posession when you go to your CTC is a vaccination record for measles! From RCSU (Pac): "It is strongly recommended that all adult staff, cadets, and JCRs bring confirmation of a complete measles vaccination to CTC and Enhanced Training Sessions (ETS).” MAKE SURE TO GET THIS DONE OR YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND!

Parents: Can you contact Capt Yakiwchuk via Email: 521aurorarcacs@gmail.com verifying if your Cadet has received their Measles Vaccination and if they received 1 dose (half vaccinated) or 2 doses (fully vaccinated).
