Power Fam Flying – 13 and 27 May – Pitt Meadows

We have 2 opportunities to do some Power Fam Flying this month. Fam (or Familiarization) flying is an intergral part of the Air Cadet program. We have 2 dates, 13 and 27 May, to go Power Fam flying.

On the 13th, departure times are 1800, 1845, and 1930 and on the 27th, departure times are 1800, 1845, 1930, and 2015. Sign up sheets will be out this coming Thurday at parade. We want to fill all the spots. Each departure time will be for 6 cadets (3 cadets per aircraft).

Joining instructions for weeknight Power Fam flying at Pitt Meadows Airport (CYPK):

The meeting point is the main terminal building at Pitt Meadows Airport (see picture), which is located at 18799 Airport Way, Pitt Meadows, BC.  Cadets are expected to be at the airport 30 minutes before their assigned departure time, so that we can get the appropriate documentation done and carry out a safety brief.

We will be operating two aircraft, each of which will conduct three flights.  Nominal departure times for those three flights are 1800, 1845 and 1930 (with an extra departure at 2015 as sunset gets later).  We can accommodate six cadets at each departure time.

The entire experience, including briefing time before takeoff, takes a little over an hour, i.e. a cadet on the 1800 departure will be expected to report to ground staff NLT 1730 and will be finished and free to leave by about 1835.  Cadets should wear appropriate civilian attire.

Advanced Leadership Program

The Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) is the new optional training program for Year 5 cadets. It provides senior cadets with advanced training and opportunities for leadership within the cadet program.

The LM Area Office will host a webinar for cadets and adult staff. The webinars will help cadets understand what the ALP is, and what commitment is required for success. The aim is to help senior cadets decide if they want to commit to the ALP Program for 2025-26.

Registration is required in order to receive the meeting link.

Gliding – Sunday, 04 May 25 – Abbotsford Airport (YXX)

We have been lucky to get a whole day of gliding coming up this Sunday, 04 May. There will be 2 shifts for gliding, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The first shift will be from 0845hrs – 1230hrs and the second shift will be from 1245hrs – NLT 1700hrs. If you sign up, you are expected to arrive 15mins prior to your shift time. Remember, if you are early, you are on-time. If you are on-time, you are late.

CI Jennifer Ross will be the Supervising Officer for the cadets at the airport.

Reminder to dress accordingly for the weather conditions. Weather can go from nice, sunny, and warm to overcast, windy and cold, so be prepared.

Also, what ever you pack in, you pack out! Bring snacks and water, as there will be some physical activities pushing and retrieving the gliders.

The sign up sheets will be available after closing parade tomorrow, so make sure we fill all the spots.

Location is at the Abbotsfor Airport on the East side of the airfield, but you must enter from the North side via Queen Street.

PARENTS: Unfortunately, you will not be allowed on to the airfield due to restrictions. Be prepared, if weather deteriorates, that gliding could be cancelled at a moments notice, and you may need to pick up your cadet sooner than planned. If you are going to be late or you cannot attend, you need to contact Capt Yakiwchuk (604-908-4696) a.s.a.p. so that the information can be passed to CI Ross.

Please make sure you read through the "FAMILIARIZATION GLIDING" information sheets.
